Tom Killner’s Album Launch – 22nd March 2024

Tom Killner’s Album Launch with support from Ramblin' Preachers and KIER at Yellow Arch Studios, Sheffield - 22nd March 2024

**Warning** Donna, that’s me, can ramble on and this post may send you to sleep, but if you do make it to the end, well done.

Many, many moons ago BitchinRockPhotos were here, there and everywhere driving bands around, taking photos, selling their merch, feeding hungry band members and providing moral support.

But after about 10 years on the road, we gave it up. We moved house, we had our rescue dog and Life got in the way. We closed down the blog, lost most of the content. Last paying gig we went to was Danko Jones in Leeds Key Club 2015.

BUT I have had the urge to get back into going to gigs, I’m itching to be a merch bitch again, I would love to take phots as well as MrRob, but that will never happen…..But I can fake it ;) Apart from a couple of small Lovegods gigs last year and me doing Doncaster Pride and DN One live, we haven’t been to any live music gigs.

So last night, Jon, (who we know from way back in BitchinRock tour days when he drummed for Silverjet), invited us to Tom Killner’s Album Launch in Sheffield. I persuaded MrRob to leave the warmth of his bum groove in sofa and we headed to Sheffield. Considering it was 13 years since we last saw him. Walking in and seeing Jon behind the ‘ticket’ desk, those years dropped away. A beautiful man, with a heart of gold.

First on was Kier. - www.facebook.com/KIEROFFIC… What a beautiful start to the evening. Kier has an amazingly, powerful, captivating voice, both when singing and talking. Her partner’s guitar playing was beautiful. They had the crowd singing along and warmed up very nicely. We shall definitely being going to see Kier again.

Next up were Ramblin' Preachers - www.facebook.com/ramblinpr… Man they were rocking from the first note (it was at that first note, that made me realise I had brought the wrong earplugs, I seemed to have brought child sized ones, lol ) But back to the band, each song had heads bobbing and feet tapping. Changing guitars caused a hiccup for James Ives on lead guitar. But the rest of the band were already fully committed to playing the song. Lead singer, Ross Connor kept glancing back to check on guitar situation, knowing there was to be a solo due shortly. The look in his eye giving off a ‘oh shit, what do we do now’, BUT give him full respect, when it came to the solo, he filled in with a Presidents of The United States of America style worthy solo. Another band on our to see again list.

On to headliner Tom Killner - www.facebook.com/TomKillne… Tonight was launch night for Tom’s new album ‘Borrowed Time’ - www.tomkillner.com/shop Amazing voice and a different style of music for me. Not only were we were treated to great guitar riffs, but we also had tambourine, and fiddle. New to band last night was another old BitchinRockPhotos friend, Andre Mewse. I forgot how bloody good he is on guitar. We really must try and get out more often.

One thing I have to say about the crowd tonight is, they were there to soak up the music. Most phones only came out to snap a photo or take a pic, talking was kept to a minimum while bands were playing and people were respectful of each others space. Amazing atmosphere and a great little venue.

Huge Thanks to Jon for getting us out amd putting on such a brilliant night. Was lovely to finally meet his lovely lady. apologies for not being able to stick around and have more of a catch up.

I have to say, Jon, you were speaking so highly of BitchinRockPhotos to people and I felt so proud. Thank you for that.

Apologies to Mewsey for not saying proper hello. See you next time guys.

MrRob was back in his element taking photos and hiding by speakers 🤣

Also like to mention Ian, another photographer we met tonight and had an instant friendship. Great to share the ‘photo pit’ with you Ian
